Op.Dr. Serpil Kırım
I am a women's health, obstetrics and in vitro fertilization specialist. I have been a physician for 15 years and have been in the world of women's health and birth for 13 years. I was born on 26.09.1980 in Uşak. I am married and a mother of 2 children. I completed primary and secondary school in Uşak. I studied high school at Isparta Süleyman Demirel Science High School and medical school at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine. I completed my Gynecology and Obstetrics specialization at şişli Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital. During my assistantship, I started to question births and birth methods. I always wondered how we could support pregnant women, make birth easier, or complete this story with positive emotions. I got pregnant with my daughter Zeynep in the second year of my assistantship. I wanted to give birth to my daughter naturally, without intervention and with positive emotions as much as possible. That's why I started working during my pregnancy. There was no training at that time, we created a system together with our beloved midwives in our hospital. I determined my birth team. My birth team consisted of the people who made me feel the best and could provide positive support during this process. I gave birth to my daughter through normal birth. I always stayed together as much as possible. It made me feel so good to be reunited with my daughter like this. I started to think why all pregnant women shouldn't have their babies like this. Postpartum processes led me to do research on secure attachment, and my research converged on skin-to-skin contact. In fact, life was all about attachments, and those who started life with secure attachments were always one step ahead. The first step in this was to capture skin, voice and eye contact, which are the three points of connection when we first opened our eyes to life. As a birth supporter, I was actually very far from these. I started researching how the world views birth and whether births like this could happen. While my research led to hypnobirthing birth, Lamaze birth, active birth and birth with hypnosis, I also crossed paths with Istanbul Birth Academy in the country.
